The Perfect Pair
No this is not a post about relationships- it’s way more important than that. I’m talking jeans. Have you ever spent an entire day shopping for jeans that look and feel perfect? Yeah it sucks. I had to do it this week. My favorite pair of black skinny jeans finally ripped on me and because I literally live in them, I had to go to the mall and replace them ASAP. Turns out, the style and cut I love has been discontinued… Go figure.
So off on the wild goose chase I went. I’m 5’4″ with hips and a bigger butt, so jeans can be an obstacle. 3 hours and 6 stores later, I was leaving the mall empty handed. They were either too long, too baggy at the waist, too tight on my thighs.. you know, girl things. I was about to walk out when I saw an American Eagle. I literally have not set foot in one of those stores since I was probably 17. But at this point, what did I have to lose? I walked in – clearly the oldest person in the store. I went straight to the counter and asked for plain black skinny jeans, something that seemed impossible at that point. The girl led me to a wall and handed me my size. I was doubtful, after all this store is for pre-teens and tiny girls.
But then I put them on. and OH MY GOD. You guys.
Rarely am I ever a brand advocate for a big company without a cause. I fully support brands like Toms, Warby Parker etc. American Eagle? Well they just make some frickin good jeans!
American Eagle now carries up to size 16 and offers a variety of lengths – short, regular, long, extra long. Like I said, I’m 5’4″ so I got the “short” length and it was perfect. The high waist is actually high waisted so it hits in all the right places. Since they are technically a jegging, they are super soft and super stretchy.
I instantly had a Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants moment. The jeans fit perfectly. I tried on their X4 hi-rise jegging. Like I said, I’m 5’4″ so I got the “short” length and they are perfect. The high waist is actually high waisted so it hits in all the right places. Since they are technically a jegging, they are super soft and super stretchy. I will say they run a little on the smaller side but their inaccurate sizing is nothing compared to places like H&M.
Now lets talk price: my beloved black skinnies that ripped were from Urban Outfitters at $70. All of the jeans I attempted to try on varied in price range. I went to Zara with the most basic pairs starting around $60. I went into Nordstrom and grabbed everything I could; Joes that average around $170, Topshop that average $80, Blank NYC, AG, all around $130. you get the picture.
American Eagle? $50. And they still have the forever sale of buy one get one half off on their denim. So not only did I walk out of that mall with the perfect replacement black skinnies, I left with the same jeans in 3 other colors as well for less than what I was willing to pay for one “good” pair.
You better believe I did a happy dance when I got to my car. Nothing makes a girl feel quite as good as the perfect pair of jeans.
